Cob Cottage at Rainbow Ranch
Buda, Texas


 

Earthen cottage built for an "at risk" youth education organization. Most of the materials and labor were found or donated. A natural building featuring:

    • Siting for passive solar heating and natural ventilation
    • Eighteen inch thick walls of earth, sand and straw (cob), finished with lime plaster
    • Many building materials found onsite (wood, rock, clay)
    • Earthen floor with linseed oil finish
    • Salvaged building materials, including windows and door
    • Built-in cob bench
    • Arched doorways, free-form windows
